Anti-Racism Resources for providers
ISITdbt Anti-Racism Committee
In 2020, I served as the chair of an Anti-Racism panel for the ISITDBT conference. As a result of that panel discussion, ISITDBT created an Anti-Racism committee which works to provide scholarships for providers of color to attend ISITDBT conferences, provide opportunities for providers of color to connect with one another, suggest anti-racism resources for the DBT community, and gather resources about adaptations of DBT for clients of color.
It is also possible to view the 2020 panel on the ISITDBT anti-Racism resources website.
Anti-Racism Consultation
I work directly with teams to provide consultation on anti-racist delivery of DBT. I have facilitated discussions about:
How unexamined biases impair therapists’ ability to provide adherent DBT.
How to focus on client care over therapist discomfort in the clinics anti-racist work.
How therapists fear of saying “the wrong thing” may have a negative impact on clients with marginalized identities.
Best practices for working with clients embodying one or more historically marginalized identities.
I typically provide an initial consultation guided by the unique questions of the providers in the program. The team can then determine what kind of consultation, if any, makes the most sense to help move toward their goals for working toward equity.
